I live and work high in the Pennines surrounded by rolling fells and tumbling rivers. Buzzards, mountain hares, red squirrels and barn owls occupy the quiet moorlands which are crisscrossed by dry stone walls, ancient drovers’ roads and the immense hand-built structures of the Settle-Carlisle railway.

Deep in winter, the thick stone walls of our cottage shut out the chaos of rain-lashed days; inside, oak and walnut tones are warmed by the flamelight of the stove. Months later, when the heather is crisp and rivers barely trickle between limestone boulders, sleek shapes in sycamore and ash welcome a cooling breeze through open windows. Every piece of timber has individual character which becomes more evident as work progresses.
I create furniture which will endure constant use so that it will pass from one generation to the next, carrying the stories it accumulates.
